The Handbook of Rising Pictures

By Janet Barker

This book is intended for those engaged—or intending to be so—in Anthroposophical Medicine and/or Biodynamic Agriculture, trying to measure life force quality in plants and their products.

The Handbook should be of help to anyone interested in rising pictures, whether a layman or a scientist. It should help those interested in making rising pictures; those who do not have access to a fully equipped laboratory to standardize their methods rigorously; and those interested in how the pictures arise. The Handbook is intended to fill the void that currently exists in English as many papers on this subject are now out of print.

Rising pictures are chromatograms where the extract and metal reagents rise vertically on cylinders of chromatography paper. Capillary dynamolysis was the term coined by Lilly Kolisko and others in earlier translations involving this method. Capillary dynamolysis describes how the fluid moves up the paper by capillary action to form the rising picture. The term rising picture is a translation of the German word, “Steigbild”. The term pictureforming method is a translation of the German expression, “Bildschaffende Methode”.
